The problem

Children feel time long before they understand it

"Five more minutes" means very little when you can't see it. Children live with the clock all day, but it's invisible, and so is what it costs when time slips away.

Timeliner makes time visible. A routine becomes a simple bar from start to finish, and a runner moves along it as the minutes pass. Children can see where they are, what's next and how much time is left, without anyone needing to nag.

How it works

A start, some steps and something to look forward to

1

Set a finish line

Every routine runs from a start time to a finish line, such as "Leave for school" or "Lights out".

2

Add the steps

Each step has a time to be done by. Or let some steps happen in any order, as long as they're all done in time.

3

Save time for a reward

A reward zone near the end holds the good bit: play time, a story, quiet play.

4

Watch the runner

The runner moves along the bar as time passes, and children tick off each step as they go.

When a step runs late, the steps after it are pushed back and the reward zone shrinks, but the finish line stays put. Catching up wins the time back. It's a friendly way to learn what time is worth, with no telling off required.

Who it's for

For families and classrooms

Timeliner is set up by grown-ups and used by children: parents and carers, childminders, teachers and club leaders.

At home

Mornings, bedtimes, homework and getting out of the door, with a routine for each child.

In the classroom

Education mode keeps things calm and simple for lessons, transitions and tidy-up time, with routines for each class.

For every child

Words and design adjust gently with age, and Simple display gives a calmer screen for children who prefer it.
