Common questions
How do I set up a routine?
- Open Settings from the home screen and answer the grown-up check.
- Tap New routine. You can start from scratch or make a new version of a routine you already have.
- Give it a name, a start time and a finish line, for example "Leave for school" at 8:15.
- Add steps along the way, such as "Get dressed" or "Breakfast", each with the time it should be done by.
- Add a reward zone near the end, such as play time or quiet play.
- Choose which days it repeats, then tap Save.
The free version includes one routine. Timeliner Pro unlocks as many as you like.
What are "any order" steps?
Sometimes the order doesn't matter, as long as everything's done in time. Teeth, shoes and coat, say. In the routine editor, tap Add an any-order block, add the steps, and set the time they should all be done by. Your child can tick them off in whatever order suits them. The block counts as done when the last one is ticked.
Why is the reward zone getting smaller?
That's Timeliner showing what running late costs, gently. If a step isn't ticked by its time, it moves along with the runner and pushes the following steps back. The next reward zone soaks up the delay: its finish stays put, so it shrinks.
Catching up wins the time back. When a late step is ticked, the routine runs only as late as that step was, so finishing the next steps quickly gives the zone back its minutes.
If you turn on Bonus time for finishing early for a routine, finishing every step before a zone ahead of time makes that zone start sooner, so it lasts longer.
How do I add a widget?
Home screen: touch and hold an empty part of the home screen, tap Edit then Add Widget, and search for Timeliner.
Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise, choose the Lock Screen, then tap the widget area and choose Timeliner.
Steps can be ticked off straight from the widget.
How do reminders work?
In the app's Settings, turn on Reminders and choose how long before a routine starts, or before its finish line, you'd like a nudge. Reminders are scheduled on your device, so they work without an internet connection.
If you don't get them, check that notifications are allowed for Timeliner in your device's Settings app → Notifications → Timeliner.
iCloud sync isn't working
Timeliner keeps routines, children, classes and today's ticks the same on every device signed in to the same Apple Account. If a device isn't keeping up:
- Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account.
- Check that iCloud is switched on: in the Settings app, tap your name → iCloud.
- In Timeliner, open Settings and look at the iCloud section. Make sure Sync with iCloud is on and read the status line underneath. "Up to date" means all is well, and anything else tells you what's wrong.
- Make sure both devices are online, then give it a minute.
How do I restore my purchases?
On a new device, or after reinstalling, open the app's Settings and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought with. Upgrades are one-off purchases, so you never pay twice.
How do I change the grown-up check?
Open the app's Settings and find Grown-up check. You can choose a times-table question, a passcode, or Face ID / Touch ID, and change your passcode there.
Forgotten your passcode? Tap Forgot passcode? on the check and confirm with your device's own Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. The check goes back to the times-table question until you set a new passcode.
How do I delete my data?
- A child, class or routine: remove it in the app's Settings. It's removed from all your synced devices.
- Everything on one device: delete the app.
- Everything in iCloud: in the Settings app, tap your name → iCloud → Manage Storage, choose Timeliner, and delete its data.
